The annual “Dancing with the Southern Stars,” an entertainment and fundraising event for local charities, will be held in August inside the Ware County Middle School Auditorium. The has become one of the most popular events in this area and has been credited with raising thousands of dollars to help with the operation of Magnolia House and other charitable organizations in town. “Dancing with the Southern Stars” raised $250,339.26 last year and was shared equally by Magnolia House and Miracle League of the Okefenokee. “We’re excited about this year’s event and look forward to great fundraising and dancing from these teams,” said Michelle Girtman, executive director of Magnolia House of the Saturday, August 6 event. “This year our event will raise money for both Magnolia House and Satilla Advocacy Services.” Each year, 13 couples are chosen to team up for a dance and to help raise the donations. Each couple has its own plans for fundraisers that will be announced throughout the community. They are helped to plan their dance style, select music and attire, and given instructions on how to dance to the tune they’ve selected. This year’s dancers include: •James Burchett/Misty Burchett •James Cox/Quincy Burgess •Mike Bell/Stephanie Bell •Dr. John Lefand/Laura Coates. •Trey Shields/Ivy Thrift •Patrick Simmons/ Allie Dixon •Charlie Moore/ Jessica Moore •Seth Starling/Katie Kratzer •Seth Hullander/ Taylor Hundley •Ansil Fulmore/Felicia Fulmore •Matt Boatright/Mandy Beverly •Chris Gonzales/Heather Gonzales •Brian Chapman/Kristen Steedley Waycross Bank and Trust will serve as the presenting sponsor for the event. Walker-Jones is a corporate Level 1 sponsor. Both are non-profit organizations. Anyone can vote for their favorite team and help raise money for the two agencies. The team with the most votes and raises the most money for the year’s event will receive the Community Choice Award. “Help your favorite team win the prize by voting today,” said Girtman. One may keep up with the coming event through Facebook. There will be three awards presented at the event: • First, the Community Choice award — where you can help your favorite dance team! This award goes to the team who raises the most monetary donations for Magnolia House and Satilla Advocacy Services. • The second, the Judges Award, goes to the team who — simply put — presents the best dance performance of the night in the view of a panel of qualified judges. • The final award is Entertainer of the Night, an award the audience will vote on for their favorite entertainer. “Mark your calendar for Dancing with the Southern Stars, Saturday, August 6, 2022, at Ware County Middle School Auditorium, starting at 7 p.m.” said Girtman. “The time and location for tickets to go on sale will be announced at a later date. Purchase your tickets early. Tickets sell out quickly. We look forward to seeing everyone there.” Girtman thanked the participants for being a part of the community effort.
