Waycross honors Super Bowl Champion Ernest Jones with a parade and rally at noon today (Saturday, March 12). Jones, a former Ware County High School and University of South Carolina standout, played a key role for the Los Angeles Rams in their 23-20 victory last month against the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. The parade will begin at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds and travel west on Knight Avenue to Memorial Stadium. Jones will be the focus of a celebration rally at the stadium where he earned Class AAAAA All-State honors as a Gator. Jones, a rookie linebacker, led the Rams with seven tackles — two for loss — a sack, three quarterback hits and a pass breakup. He was a key contributor to the Rams defense the entire season, starting seven games before and after an ankle injury sidelined him late in the season. For the season, Jones finished with 61 total tackles — 36 solo — a sack and two interceptions. A commemorative T-shirt has been designed to celebrate Jones’ accomplishment that is available for $20. The shirt contains three images of the player _ one in prayer — in his Rams uniform along with the Super Bowl LVI logo. Jones, a third-round draft pick (108th overall) by the Rams last spring following a stellar, three-year career with the Gamecocks, hopes to provide one of the T-shirts to every student in kindergarten through fifth grade in the Ware County School System. The program is seeking sponsorships to aid in the effort. This includes simply buying a shirt to be given to a student, or contributing at one of the three sponsorship levels of $300 (regular), $500 (playoff) or Super Bowl ($1,000). All three sponsorship levels include meet and greet privileges. The playoff level also includes having a company logo included in packing of all donated shirts to schools. A Super Bowl level includes the above to elements as well as custom personalized memorability, notifications and opportunities to be service providers, vendors or merchants for future local endeavors by Jones. For information on purchasing shirts, either for yourself or as a donation, or sponsorship opportunities, call/text to (912) 286-2737, email ernestjones 5350@gmail or Facebook direct message to Porche Morlene. Shirt sizes are extra small to extra large for youths and extra small to 4XL for adults. Forms for shirts or sponsorships are available at City Hall or the chamber of commerce, or can be downloaded from the city website at https://waycrossga.com/documents.php. Payment for shirts or sponsorships can be made in cash, through cash app ($ErnestJones50), or checks to Ernest Jones. There are shipping fees for any shirt orders outside Waycross.
