A man dangling from a power line inside the cockpit of a single-engine plane has been rescued.
Using a Georgia Power bucket, the man was safely harnessed and winched out at approximately 12:35 p.m., and carried to an awaiting ambulance for transport to the hospital.
A backhoe was used to secure the plane by its back wheel while personnel attempted the rescue.
The accident on McKinnley Road between Carswell Avenue and Alban Avenue, happened just after 10 a.m., this morning cutting off power all around Waycross.
Stephen Winge, a witness, told Rick Nolte of the Waycross Journal-Herald he saw two planes that looked like they were trying to land at the same time. Winge said he heard the plane that hit the power line gun the engine twice and lose power twice on its approach from the east.
Nolte reported the pilot was communicating with rescue personnel on scene while awaiting the arrival of Georgia Power to cut the power from the line.
The plane was hanging by its tail on a broken electrical pole.
