WAYCROSS — David E. Hayes, 65, of Waycross died Friday afternoon, April 15, 2022, at his residence after a brief illness.

Hayes was born in Waycross to the late Rev. Emerson “Pete” Hayes and Shirley E. Adams Hayes, and made Waycross his home for most of his life. He worked in construction and was a talented wood worker.

Hayes enjoyed playing, singing and making music, working in his yards and helping/doing for others when they were in need. He was an avid Ware County High School Gators and University of Georgia Bulldogs football fan.

Hayes was a member of Woodard Chapel Southern Congregational Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Hayes of Waycross; two sons, David Shane Hayes of Eatonton, Ga., and the Rev. Adam Tyler Hayes (wife Katie) of Waycross; four grandchildren, Destiny Hayes of Eatonton, Gavin Hayes of Eatonton, Hailey Hayes of Eatonton and Eden Moore of Eatonton; one great-grandchild, Bentley Burlow of Eatonton; his brother, Jeff Hayes of Waycross; a sister-in-law, Brenda Dickerson of Hoboken; a brother-in-law, Boyd Griffin (wife Medina) of Blackshear; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service was held Monday, April 18, 2022, at Woodard Chapel Congregational Methodist Church. Burial followed in Greenlawn Cemetery.
