WAYCROSS — Edward Lacey Altman, Sr., 86, of Waycross, died Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Harborview Pierce County after a sudden illness. Altman was born in Tampa, Fla., to the late Norman and Gertrude Kimbrel Altman, and made Waycross his home for most of his life. He was an artistic and talented man who was self-employed as a paint contractor. Altman loved working and it didn’t matter what it was he could build it, fix it and created all sorts of different things. He was a positive man, always smiling and laughing and socializing with other people. Altman was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball, golf and car racing. He was a veteran of the United States Army and was of the Methodist faith. In addition to his parents, Altman was preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Denise Lombard; and a brother, Gilbert Forrest Altman. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Altman of Waycross; two children, Susan Mullis of Valdosta, and Edward Lacey Altman, Jr. of Charleston, S.C.; two grandchildren, Lacie Guy Rowe husband, Alan, of Valdosta, Gunnar Altman of Bowman, S.C.; a close friend, David Walker and his wife, Kim, of Valdosta; a brother, Coleman Altman of Valdosta; two sisters, China Altman of Boston, Mass., and Betty Moore of Atlanta; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A memorial service was held Thursday, April 14, in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. A private burial was held at Greenlawn Cemetery.
