WAYCROSS — Joe Anthony “Tony” Cheshire, 64 of Waycross died Monday afternoon, April 11, 2022 in Hortense after an extended illness. Cheshire was born in Pearson to the late James Allison Cheshire and Myrtice Bennett Skinner and made Waycross his home for many years. He worked several years for The Division of Family & Children Services as an adoption agent. Cheshire’s true calling and passion in life were children and helping them find a home. He also worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the Department of Labor. Cheshire served his country faithfully in the United States Navy. He is survived by two sons, Jeremy Cheshire and wife Gloria of Waycross, and Joshua Cheshire of Allenhurst, Ga.; two grandchildren, Jase Cheshire and Jaydin Green; three siblings, Glenn Cheshire of Keystone Heights, Fla., Jerry Cheshire of Atkinson and Faye Strickland of Waycross; a special caregiver, Amanda Cheshire-Williams and husband Tim of Hortense; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. A funeral service was held Friday, April 15, 2022 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Thomas Cemetery off of Miles-Still Road.
