DIXIE UNION — John Stewart, 52, of Dixie Union died suddenly in Waycross on Friday, April 22, 2022.
John was born on November 23, 1969, in Columbia, S.C. During his early childhood, John and his family lived in several locations in South Carolina and Arkansas before moving back to his parents’ native Southeast Georgia, settling in Dixie Union in 1981.
He was a 1987 graduate of Ware County High School. John had been employed by CSX Railroad for the past 24 years and was a member of the Local Union No. 625. He was a member of Dry Creek Baptist Church in Nicholls, serving as a prayer leader.
John’s father, Johnny Stewart and brother Chad Stewart, preceded him in death. His mother, Virue Stewart of Dixie Union and two daughters that he doted on — Georgia and Dixie Stewart — survive him. John was the grandson of the late Grady and Vienna Boatright of Nicholls, and Julian and Eula Stewart of Alma.
Family held visitation services from 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday, April 25, at Crosby Funeral Home of Alma. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Dry Creek Baptist Church. Interment with graveside services followed the funeral at the Stewart Cemetery in Alma.
Pallbearers were James Jordan, Randy Taylor, Shawn Jordan, Jeffrey Stewart, Steve Thompson, and Chris Stewart. Employees of CSX Railroad and all members of Dry Creek Baptist Church in attendance will be considered honorary escort.
Crosby Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
