WAYCROSS — Virginia McNeal, 91, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Hospice House Satilla in Waycross following a short illness.

She was born in Coffee County to the late Lee Swails and Betty Merritt Swails Smith. She retired from Jake and Ed’s Clothing Store as a seamstress, and was a member of Winona Park United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she also was preceded in death by her husband, John R. “J.R.” McNeal Jr., and her son, Ronald “Ronnie” McNeal.

She is survived by her son, John Gary McNeal (wife Zelda) of Waycross; two grandchildren, Laura Mathews (husband Jeff) of Warner Robins, and John McNeal of McDonough; four great grandchildren, Kaylee Lowery, Lance Taylor, Launa Smith and Braylon Mathews; and two sisters, Carolyn Ricketson of Broxton and Eloise Wooly of Destin, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, April 27) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.

The family will begin receiving friends at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in her honor to Hospice House Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, 31501.
