WOODSTOCK, Ga. — William Dale Roberson (Roby), 89 of Woodstock, Ga., passed away at home on Sunday, May 1, 2022.

Roby was born in Patterson, Ga., on November 17, 1932, and he graduated from Patterson High School in 1949. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force as a helicopter mechanic serving honorably for 26 years and serving in the Korean War, the Cold War and two tours in Vietnam before retiring in 1976.

He worked four years in Civil Service at Hill Air Force base in Utah before joining McDonnell Douglas and working in Saudi Arabia for nine years, ultimately returning to Layton, Utah, to retire.

He married Polly Ann Nixon December 25, 1953, in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were married for 45 years.

Roby was a wonderful wood worker, a carpenter and gun enthusiast, who loved being able to share and teach his craft to others. He loved working in his yard planting/tending to trees and flowers (he truly had a green thumb).

He was a member of the Gateway Masonic Lodge #29 F. & A.M. in Clearfield, Utah, for 35 years before returning to Georgia. He was a Master Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite and a Shriner.

He loved traveling in Europe with his late wife, Polly, and finding all kinds of “treasures” to bring back to the States. Roby loved animals. He always said, “All these babies are mine.” It didn't matter whose dog or cat it belonged to, they all were his.

Roby was the second son of the late Andrew Jackson “A.J.” and Dorinda Dowling Roberson. He also was preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Polly Ann Nixon; son, Carl Neil Roberson; all four of his sisters, Lona Bell Oswald, Eula Peeler, Melvina Pittman and Geraldine (Geri) Cox and three brothers, Grady, Kenny, and Gordon Roberson.

Survivors include one son, David “Wayne” Roberson (Cheryl) of Layton, Utah; two daughters, Jennifer Roberson-Northcutt of Woodstock, Ga., Joyce E. Stevenson (Robert) of Woodbury, Ga.; six granddaughters whom he adored, Bridgette Hughes, Brittainy Harris (Mike), Bonnie Bomar (Shawn), Kyrie Wehner (Josh), Angela Nordin (Jeff) and Nadine Jones (Ryan); 11 great grandchildren Regean, Miken, Brittain, Savannah, Simi, JR, Declan, Lochlan, Braylon, Braxton, Ethan and a very special nephew, Stanley Pittman.

Roby waited many years for grandsons and he was so happy and proud all these girls gave him grandsons-in-laws and great grandsons.

Dad, you are our hero, the light of our lives and our world has just gotten a bit dimmer. We know you are with Mom and Carl, and with you all together you will make our lives bright again.
